To Mom & Dad by Joanna Southcott
You are the rock in the water, and I am the little seashell, or maybe a crab, or a fish
you have weathered many storms, stood the test of time
provided solace, comfort, and stability
one day I will be a rock in the water maybe for some seashells or crabs or fish and the rock will
still be there
when the current drags me out and the ocean gets rough, I look up to the sky and wonder if I’ll
make it out this time
the rock will still be there
one day, the rock will have weathered its storms
the ocean will meet the sky and welcome you home everything will calm,
the sky will tell me it’s okay I will make it out,
the rock will still be there
