DeLyn Winters is the 2025 recipient of the Clancy Herbst Veteran Service Award at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. A longtime advocate for veterans, DeLyn is a Teaching Professor in the First Year Rhetoric and Writing Program and a lecturer in the Gateway Program Seminar (GPS) at UCCS. She also serves as Editor-in Chief of the Veteran Writers Network.
Clancy Herbst was an Army veteran, a CU alum, and served on the CU Foundation. He had a big heart for philanthropy and blessed CU in many ways, including the funding of the McCord Herbst Student Veteran Center. Clancy passed away a few years ago at the age of 95. Student veterans at UCCS continue to reap the benefits of his generosity every day through his giving. UCCS created the award three years ago, after his passing, with permission from his wife, Linda.
The Clancy Herbst Veteran Service Award is given to a UCCS staff, faculty, or student who exemplifies the care, support, and service of our military-affiliated students at UCCS.
