Post-Modernism 192 BPM by Marco Morales

Fear! Comes ever near, can’t even hear
Positivity in the sheer discouragement here
Indecision! The millennial struggle to not be a muggle
But can’t compromise, visualize real skies
No hope, can’t cope with mutual exclusion
The indivisibility is a painful conclusion
We have to grow up, get our asses out the door
Somehow cut our lifelong tethers and get dropped on the floor
We can never decide, ‘cause we’ve been fed a great lie
“Be whatever you want; don’t even have to try!”
And we’ve lost the struggle, as we hold hands, sing kumbaya
Our path is one of eggshells: “I’m offended” – social law

Morals! Ethics! What’s right and what’s wrong
Can’t be summed up in song at least for too long
Too clear, too straight for the modern man’s mind
We live in subjectives – leave tradition behind
But what happens when faced with the Immoral Dilemma
Afraid to grasp the horns, just hide behind el sistema
Hear the world burn around you and society shatter
Are you a hypocrite? Doesn’t all of this matter?
Got to fight for life in this world rife with strife
End each war one by one ‘til the victory is won

I don’t wanna deal; I just wanna feel
Good and bad, right and wrong, just isn’t what’s real
Leave the objectives for others, but for me
I’d rather not know – stay in subjectivity
Don’t want to strive in a world of black and white,
Cut and dry to satisfy my family ties
Don’t wanna go-get, to hustle, and try
Instead of opportunistic, I’ll stick to relativistic
It’s the best for me, can’t you see? I’ll do me
While you do you, and we’ll see how this leads
To our own demise and destruction – without instruction
From our guidelines and compasses, that’s the future’s construction.

Nostalgia! Blast from the past, time is too fast
Want to make it last, remember the past
Memories, on my sleeves jeeves, are my pet peeves; since you asked
I’m-a seize these, though the pain still grieves me, I’m tasked
With the unfortunate fortune of my generation’s portion
Don’t wanna grow up; yet another distortion
Of the truth is that we don’t have to, but we do! Time you knew
What is true and what’s askew, even if we break the societal glue.

The only rule is that there are none, son
With this self-contradiction, every argument is won!
No one can tell you if you’re right or you’re wrong
Just accept this for yourself, and we’ll all get along
No need to be sure of yourself, just sign
On the line down below with the date and the time
You can be “surely unsure,” if you need; on the line
Just sign down below with the date and the time
“Objectively subjective,” the kids call it, down below
With the date and the time, just sign, on the line
All your friends are doing it, cross the line
Just sign down below, mark the date and the time
Cherish this moment; sell your soul; you’ll be fine
Cross the line, join the crowd, and write the DATE AND THE TIME.

…No?

The road only gets harder.
You’ve a long way to go.
